about

Attention –
To those who operate in the night:

“Starlight Vandals” is the latest song by music producer Astroboter. It's an uptempo tune inspired by UK Garage, Breakbeat and Cyberpunk.

The Cyberpunk influence originates from the cult book “Neuromancer” by William Gibson. The idea of “High tech, low life” is more present than ever. We see dystopia as impossible, yet we still doubt it – especially with governments doing a good job of keeping us safe nowadays. Add a lightspeed-evolving Cyberspace to it and you have the perfect cocktail for social chaos.

At our current mark in history, it's impossible to stay apolitical. Astroboter expresses his concerns about politics, law and police in 2021 with “Starlight Vandals“:

“I'm concerned about the current behaviour of politicians and the police. If you behave bad, then the cops should get you. But if you demonstrate peacefully and get smashed, as we see in many parts of the world these days – or not, depending on the media you consume – it's a disgrace for humanity. Seeing friendly people, young and old, men and women, getting bitten by dogs and smashed with clubs made me sick in March 2021.“

“It doesn't matter which side you're on, if you want to get the vax or not, if you're from the middle, right or left, if you're human or alien – it's sickening to see how the government is acting and it rumbles the base of democracy. And now democracy is being threatened by taking public speech away, hardening pro-police-laws and widening censorship. All while political groups, including the government itself, are setting people up against each other with old-age games of fear. Fuck this – we all need to stand together!“

Astroboter melts these thoughts and feelings into his new song “Starlight Vandals“:

Shuffling smack-drums provoke an eery, paranoid alertness. Grainy Synth pads push the scene of moving through a lonesome metropolis in the middle of the night. The tempo is fast and your adrenaline is pumping. Whatever you do, beware of the watchmen...

As with the previously released song “Fearmonger” in September 2020, “Starlight Vandals” was mastered by Grammy Award winner Mandy Parnell. She has mastered many nighttime hits by champions like Aphex Twin, Four Tet, Tame Impala and Mogwai – all of whom are inspirations for Astroboter.

For over a decade now, Astroboter transitions from dusty Hip Hop beats to Ambient music and back to energetic Breaks 'n' Raves. Astroboter, a kind of 21st century sound druid in a Krautrock state of mind.

“Starlight Vandals“ was produced in the dark days of December in 2020, a year that has marked a new chapter in the ever-unfolding story of Astroboter:

He reset his “Psychedelic Dungeon” studio, cut away from Social Media and dove deeply into his sonic craft with focus on single releases – all while bringing his vision of Astroboter into a new shape.

“Starlight Vandals” is out on 16.04.2021 via Psychedelic Dungeon Records on all music platforms worldwide. A 12" vinyl record of 101 editions was pressed and sold out via pre-orders. The wax is featuring the unreleased Ambient piece “Untitled (1949)“ on the B-Side.

Punch “Starlight Vandals” into your Ono-Sendai Cyberspace deck, turn it up and roam freely through the night...
